Elizabeth Madeline Tanner looked around nervously. The double wedding was due to begin in less than an hour, and neither JD Dunne, nor Lacey's boyfriend, Rafe Moseley, was here yet. She looked worriedly at Casey Welles, JD's fiancee and her own best friend. The dark-haired girl left the two brides and walked to Lacey's side. Casey said softly, "They'll be here, Lace. You know JD would die before he would disappoint Vin."
"I also know that Buck's been lookin' to pay him ... and me ... back for that prank we pulled on him at the beginning of the week," Lacey answered, glancing out the window once more. Since both Vin and Chris were getting married today, neither could act as best man. Instead, Jack O'Neill was acting as best man for Chris, since Buck Wilmington was walking his sister down the aisle.
JD was taking care of the best man detail for Vin, while Mary Travis would walk down the aisle on the arm of her father-in-law, Orrin Travis, and with her son's hand in her own. After all, the son came with the mother. Lacey dropped her voice, so Mary wouldn't overhear even part of the conversation, and went on, "But it was worth it, Case, just to see his expression when he pulled Dr. Richmond's underwear on."
Casey had noted the way Lacey dropped her voice, and the brunette said, "Don't you be worryin' about gettin' Mary's attention. She knows all about the prank. About laughed herself silly when Charlotte showed the video at the bachelorette party. Yes, she was in the room at the time. Besides, who do you think loaned Adriana the video camera? Lacey, Charlotte loaned y'all the underwear, and Mary donated her camera!"
Oh ... shit. Lacey Tanner just stared at her best friend in horrified shock. If Mary knew about her and JD's prank on Buck (well, Adriana helped, but she wasn't the one who actually carried it out), that meant Chris knew about the prank. And if Chris knew about the prank ... then Lacey was dead. Her eldest brother swore that anyone who pulled a prank in this week before the wedding would answer to him. And used his fiercest glare as he pronounced sentence, so to speak.
Lacey wasn't really worried about herself. But this was a special day, and she was worried about the ceremony possibly being ruined because one of the grooms had burst a blood vessel in his brain. That would not be a good way for either of her brothers to start off their new married lives. Especially since Vin and Adriana, and Chris and Mary, were planning to honeymoon together. Albeit in separate rooms (whew! That caused Lacey a few moments of anxiety, before Mary explained, yes, the two couples were in separate rooms).
Only right now, it was looking as if they might never get to that honeymoon, not if Chris was in the hospital with the aforementioned popped blood vessel. Oh, this was not good!
As Lacey felt the red creep up over her face, Casey leaned forward in a conspiratorial manner, whispering ... "Belated April Fool's ... from Casey and Buck." It took Lacey a minute to figure out what her best friend just said. The shriek which emerged from the youngest Tanner/Larabee could be heard all the way down the hall, where Buck Wilmington was helping both his oldest friend and his soon to be brother in law with their tuxedos.
The big man sighed deeply and grinned even wider as he patted Vin's shoulder, gently dusting off the jacket. Revenge really was sweet! And he only had to wait another five or ten minutes before JD got here ... and then he could really have some fun! Even better ... he wouldn't even get into trouble, because he'd been here all along!
