Someday : The Trade

By: Lady Angel

Note: Thank you to Linda for letting me play and for Karen for her betaing. And, Lord, I loathe to admit this but, yes, my brother did try this ... only it was for some computer toy. <sigh> And yes, this is almost exactly how the conversation went. I damn near drove my car into a wall laughing so hard. <sigh>

Seven year old Kyle Larabee glanced at his friend. "Trade ya."

Jack Watson studied the wooden toy gun. "For what?"

Kyle's eyes narrowed in thought. "My knife?"

"Nah, got one of those." Jack grinned. "How about your — "

"You ain't gettin' my horse, so just forget about it." Kyle thought about it some more. "How about I trade you Sarah for it?"

"Sarah?" Jack exclaimed. "What would I want your sister for?"

"Well," Kyle thought out loud. "She's fun to play with. And you can eat her food. She doesn't eat much." Before Jack could say anything, Kyle continued. "She doesn't need much room either, she's so little. And you could play with her toys too. She doesn't care ... she likes to share." Kyle paused for barely a second. "But she does cry if you don't play with her. And she does like to follow me around a lot ... I keep trippin' over her. And she's always needin' her nappies changed. She screams too, sometimes ... " He paused, then looked at his friend. "And I'm thinkin' you don't want to trade for her anymore, huh?"

Jack burst out laughing.

Kyle sighed. "Didn't think so."
