Chris Larabee thought himself to be a fairly tolerant office boss. He had no problem when someone wanted to listen to the radio ... that was just fine with him. It helped relieve the monotony of the day. He just asked that they kept it to a dull roar. But it was Friday, it had been a long stressful week and some idiot was blasting a country station through the entire floor! Chris yanked opened the door to his office and stormed into the bullpen, ready to lambaste someone for the noise level. boss.
But as he opened his mouth, Chris noticed that all of his men were scattered about the bullpen, rather than in their offices. They had expectant looks on their faces and all six of them had their heads cocked to one side. Then it hit him, they were all listening to the radio DJ.
"This is station 95.5 KCDV, Kickin' Country. This is Cara and I've got someone on the line wantin' to make a dedication. Hello? You there hon?"
"Hi, I'm here." With a jolt Chris realized he knew the voice on the radio.
"So you have a dedication you wanna make, hon?"
"Oh, I wanted to dedicate the Dixie Chicks' Cowboy, Take Me Away."
"And who you dedicating this song to?"
"Oh, just to my very own cowboy."
"Does your cowboy have a name?"
"Hmmhmm, but I'm not gonna tell you."
"Oh, really and why not?"
"'Cause he hates being called a cowboy. He's probably thinking up a way to punish me for this."
"Sounds like you're not too worried about what this punishment might be. Dare we say, you might be looking forward to it?"
Chris's entire body tightened at the throaty laugh that came over the air waves.
"By that laugh, I think that might be a stupid question. So, he's listening right now?"
"He usually doesn't listen to the radio at work, but I've got six, shall we say, accomplices makin' sure that he hears this."
At that Chris raked his friends a look that promised retribution.
"Hmm, sounds interesting. Anything else you want ta say hon?"
"Yes, just that I love you, cowboy."
Chris turned, standing behind him was his angel in the flesh. In her white suit, a cell phone in her hand, and a happy smile on her lovely face. Chris quickly strolled towards her and pulled her into arms, easily holding her body against his as he plundered her lips.
"Hello? Hon? You still there?"
Vin Tanner bent to retrieve the cell phone from the floor where she had dropped it, "Uh, hi."
"Who's this, where's ...?"
"Sorry, she's busy right now. Cowboy's got a hold of her and it doesn't look like he's letting go any time soon. Umm, wait a sec ... Chris, you gotta let Mary up for some air you know!"
Vin grinned at the look that Chris sent him and turned back to the phone, he could hear the wicked little chuckle of the DJ, "Hi, could you play that song for them now?"
"Sure, hon, by the way you sound sexy, are you single?"
As the song came rolling through the air waves and filled the bullpen, blue eyes met green and Chris easily swung Mary into a slow waltz around the room. They grinned as the saw the other men do so as well, each claiming a lady and dancing along side their black clad leader and his blonde angel.
