Vin sat in front of the TV smiling slightly as he watched
the re-run of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He had the blinds drawn and the doors locked
up tight. He simply refused to let his friends know that the Kid had gotten him
hooked on the TV show about a
The phone rang and he quickly hit the mute button on
the remote. " 'lo?"
"Vin? How you holdin'
up, Junior?"
Vin sighed, sneezing loudly, "Jus' peachy,
Buck."
Buck's boisterous laughter made the tracker wince.
"Ya still got your sense of humor! JD's on his way over. He's got some of
Miss Nettie's chicken soup for ya."
Vin silently groaned forcing himself up off the couch. He
turned off the VCR, then turned it back on again,
ejecting the tape of first season episodes. He untangled himself from his
comforter, grunting acknowledgements whenever Buck was quiet for a moment. He
stumbled into his room and grabbed a plain red T-shirt out of his chest of
drawers. Tossing the phone down on the bed, he pulled off the Willow Rosenburg shirt he was wearing and jerked the red one over
his head. He picked up the phone just in time to say "Uh-huh. Ya don't
say."
Stuffing both the shirt and VCR tape in a drawer, Vin glanced around. Nothing else was sitting out that would
give a hint to his hidden obsession. Entering the
living room again, Vin grabbed the first movie off the
shelf he touched. Glancing at it he nodded, Terminator was THE man's movie.
Perfect. He popped it into the VCR just in time to get off the phone with Buck
and open the door for JD.
" 'ey, Kid."
JD walked into Vin's
apartment and glanced around. "How ya feelin'?"
Why did everyone ask that question? If he was sick
enough to call in to work he certainly wasn't going to be up to doing
somersaults that afternoon. "Ok. What's in da
bag?" God he hated having a stopped up nose.
JD pulled a large container of chicken noodle soup out
of the grocery bag. "Brought you some soup from Miss
Nettie. She heard you weren't feelin' too good
and immediately set to fixing her cure-all. Hope it helps."
Vin smiled his thanks. He wrapped himself back up in his
comforter, trying to stave off the chills that were beginning to rack him.
Seeing how miserable Vin looked, JD fixed him a bowl
of soup and quietly got ready to leave. Vin hated to
be around people when he was sick. And he hated being taken care of. JD didn't
want to annoy his friend, and he really was capable of taking care of himself
in this instance, so he didn't feel guilty at all about leaving. As he went
towards the door he caught a glimpse of Vin's computer
and almost ran into the door looking at it.
"Hey Vin?"
"'mmm?" Vin glanced up from the
delicious soup looking at JD curiously.
JD grinned slightly and gestured towards the computer.
"Nice screensaver."
Not really paying attention Vin
shrugged, "Thanks, I downloaded it a … Aw hell." He looked over at
the corner and saw the Buffy the Vampire Slayer screensaver he had found the
previous week flashing across the computer screen. He hadn't even thought to
shut down the computer.
JD laughed, shaking his head and shut the door behind
him. He wouldn't say anything about Vin enjoying the
show so much, after all, he was hooked on it as well. But, the knowledge would
keep Vin from playing any pranks on him anytime soon.
